Invitations work best on thicker cardstock, ideally anything above 270 gsm (100 lb), since thicker paper feels sturdier and holds its shape better.

Both local and online printers can handle invitations well. Not all print shops stock the same cardstock, so it's worth sourcing one that has your desired paper stock and finishes.

Specialty invitation printers are a good option here, since they usually carry textured paper such as cotton, linen, or coloured card.

VistaPrint offers a wide range of paper options including Matte, Glossy, Linen, Pearl, Recycled and Kraft. They include front and back printing as standard, which makes them a convenient choice for invitations and cards. Their sizes differ slightly from the standard 5x7 in, but if you choose to print with VistaPrint, you're welcome to reach out and we can resize your template to match their dimensions.

HOME PRINTING

DIY printing is often more expensive and stressful than people expect. Specialty paper can cost quite a bit and ink refills can easily run into the hundreds depending on your printer. From our own experience, home printing suits small or micro weddings best, where you only need a handful of stationery pieces.

Inkjet printers handle thicker cardstock and handmade papers reasonably well, though the quality won't match professional printing. Colour-heavy designs can burn through ink quickly, so it's more economical to get those printed by a print shop.
